The Wind in the Willows

"Grown-up people are fairly correct on matters of fact," wrote Kenneth Grahame in The Golden Age, a recollection of his British childhood; "it is in the higher gift of imagination that they are so sadly to seek." As Secretary of the Bank of England, Grahame often wrote of nostalgia for his childhood, emphasizing in his writings the contrast between grim and halcyon times. In addition to The Wind in the Willows and The Golden Age, Grahame wrote Pagan Papers, a volume of essays, and Dream Days, in which he also wrote about his childhood.
