George Fox’s Journal. Volume 1

  • Author: George Fox
  • George Fox is best known for beginning the Quaker movement and helping to spread it from his native England to Great Britain, Germany, and the Americas. Trained as a cobbler, Fox left his profession at nineteen to wander in search of true religion. He developed an individualistic religious philosophy, holding that his knowledge of God came "without the help of any man, book, or writing," but from experience. Better known than the many pamphlets defending his much-persecuted stance is the Journal in which Fox set down his evolving beliefs.
