Addison’s Essays from the Spectator. With explanatory notes

  • Author: Joseph Addison
  • Poet and member of the original Kit-Cat Club (an association of Whig political leaders), Addison is best remembered for his contributions to the periodicals The Tatler (created by Richard Steele) and The Spectator (created by Steele and Addison in tandem). For a time, Addison was also known as the author of the play Cato, a remarkable political satire that managed to please people from both ends of the political spectrum - each of which read something different into the play.
